November Update

When I was finishing up work on A Time of Monsters, I promised myself that I’d spend maybe a month or two winding down, just focusing on the fixing the post-release bugs which every game will have, and doing my best to rest my mind as much as possible.

So yeah, I lied.

The truth is, I find it hard to focus on something even at the best of times (I’m beginning to suspect that’s because of undiagnosed ADHD or something). When I’m nervously waiting on a commercial and critical consensus to form on a game I’ve spent two and a half years working on, it becomes bad enough that I can’t even focus on relaxing. That means I’ve mostly spent the past two days fixing bugs and searching out feedback and reviews ad infinitum, which probably isn’t healthy for my emotional state.

Which is why I’ve also started doing some prototyping work on my next project – the one I’ve been talking about in A Creator’s Guide to Writing and Worldbuilding this past year. I’ll probably have an official announcement up on that sometime either at the end of this year, or the beginning of the next, depending on how things go.

Speaking of which, this month’s Soldier’s Guide to the Infinite Sea, Adventurer’s Guide to the Fledgling Realms, and Creator’s Guide to Writing and Worldbuilding, are also now up, if you want to take a look.

Hey Paul, Been a fan of your work since 2016. First off, huge congratulations on finishing A Time of Monsters. You’ve earned a real break, so I hope you can get some proper rest after everything you’ve put into it.I also wanted to mention something a bit more serious. The subreddit discussions around your work have gotten really toxic lately — a lot of needless hostility, mass downvotes, and even reports just to silence people. It’s not a great environment for anyone.Maybe a small post from you asking people to cool it and keep things respectful might help reset the tone. You’ve built something special, and it’d be nice if the community reflected that.

Here’s the thread I’m talking about:

Take care, and seriously — rest up.

Happy Holidays! I have been a long supporter of yours as well. I continue to look forward to experiencing all the work you’ve put out. The time spent with the Burden of Command team and now this new work of yours. I know I’m not the only one who probably thinks this, but I am proud that you’ve been able to follow your dream of writing. You have done and continue to create wonderful and in-depth worlds.

Thank you for all you do!

Does that mean Shadows will be your next game instead of what we all have been waiting years “wars of infinity”? If that’s the case then don’t think I will ever support you again, if there’s is something that I dislike more than anything is people that take for granted their fanbase, I can understand doing the vampire game because you needed an influx of money but this is just plain ignoring all the people that have supported you over the years for the infinity series… Good luck I guess then.

While I’m looking forward to Wars, I absolutely can’t deny that I play your games because I love your vision for written games in general. Keep working on your passion projects. I’ve been following your work since Guns released and I can wait as long as I need to for Wars.
